3 Recipe Guide to Quick & No-Hassle Thanksgiving Sides (+ 2 FREEBIE RECIPES)

Updated: Dec 30, 2020

Hey guys! Welcome back to our 3-Recipe Guide Thanksgiving Dinner Series. Wow that's a freakin' mouthful lol. For today's post, we've come up with 3 sides to accompany your main dishes that serve as palate cleansers and flavour enhancer (cranberry sauce) to your main dishes! If you haven't read Tuesday's post, we made a list of 3 recipes you can try to make an extremely simple yet delicious Thanksgiving dinner! So, make sure to check that out if you haven't already!

Okay, who's not quite ready for Thanksgiving dinner? Is it you? Oh, us too! We've been so preoccupied with work, school and applying for jobs (if you want to read a post related to job-hunting, we'll cover that, too!) that we honestly haven't had time to think about Thanksgiving dinner. Our 2-part series is definitely our tried-and-tested hack to help us make a scrumptious yet, fast and easy meal to serve our families. So, without further ado, here's the list of sides to accompany your main dishes:

1. GARLIC STRING BEAN STIR FRY

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of string beans

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 3 cloves of garlic

  • ½ teaspoon of salt

  • ½ teaspoons of red pepper flakes

  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Place green beans into a large skillet and cover with water then bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium to low until the beans begin to soften this will take about 7 minutes. Drain out the water and put butter and oil on the beans. Cook and stir until the butter is melted.

  2. Cook and stir garlic until the beans are tender and fragrant.

  3. Season with salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Squeeze in about a tablespoon of lemon while the beans are still hot in the skillet.

  4. Serve and enjoy!

2. MASHED POTATOES

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ lb Yukon gold potatoes

  • ½ salt

  • 4 tbs heavy cream

  • 4 tbs butter

  • 1 tablespoon of milk

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Peel and cut potatoes, and place in a pot with cold water seasoned with a generous amount of salt. Make sure the water covers at least an inch of the potatoes.

  2. Turn the heat to high and bring the potatoes to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cover the potatoes to simmer for 20 minutes. Check if the potatoes are soft if you can easily poke them with a fork.

  3. While the potatoes are cooking melt the butter and warm up the cream. Combine the two in a saucepan.

  4. When the potatoes are done, drain the water and place the hot potatoes in a large bowl.

  5. Pour the heated combination of butter and cream over the potatoes. Mash the potatoes with a masher.

  6. Add milk and keep beating until the potatoes are smooth. Remember not to over mash the potatoes otherwise, you will end up with gluey sticky potatoes.

  7. Add salt and pepper to taste and enjoy!

3. CRANBERRY SAUCE

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1 cup of water

  • 4 cups of fresh or frozen cranberries

Instructions:

  1. Rinse cranberries, pick out and discard any bruised or damaged cranberries. (if you are using fresh cranberries)

  2. Boil water with sugar, stir until the sugar dissolves.

  3. Add cranberries and cook until the cranberries burst. Lower the heat and bring to a simmer for about 15 minutes.

  4. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool down to room temperature.

  5. Transfer to a bowl and chill the sauce in the refrigerator. Remember that the sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.

  6. Serve with your feast! Enjoy!
