5 Effective Ways to Prep for Midterms

Updated: Feb 4, 2021

Midterms are coming up for a lot of us, its that time of that year where all of us are very stressed. A lot of us in the team are also facing the same dilemma at the moment, and it has been a challenge to juggle so many responsibilities. You are not alone.

Hope today’s post will give you some insight into what we do to help us achieve that A+ in our exams.

1. Make sure you have gone over your lectures and materials ahead of time

(1-2 weeks before midterm)

Review all your notes from your lectures, go through every single detail, and make sure you do not skip over any topic that confuses you. This is the time to ask all of your questions, do all of your research. Make a checklist of the things that you need to review so you have a battle plan.

2. Don't wait until the last minute to study

Study for a good 2-3 hours every day until you reach the 1-week mark before your midterm. You need to train your brain to know the material and get a very good grasp of it. DO NOT wait until the very last minute to study because this is when you will start to stress and cram, and possibly not end up studying at all. It will be worth it to not save studying to the last minute!

3. Don't just read notes; test your knowledge with varied practice

Watch videos about your lesson; test your knowledge with multiple practices; talk to your friends and classmates about your lessons. Challenge your skills with flashcards and test yourself. Make sure that you know your material not just from reading your notes, but you know it from deep within.

4. Retrieval is KEY (not mass learning)

The secret to acing your exams---retrieving information! This should come as a no-brainer, but if you want to ace your exams, follow steps 1 and 2. And when midterms roll in, that information should already be ingrained in your brain and all you have to do is review and retrieve the information. Retrieving information may take a lot of practice as our brains basically function at 110% in trying to retrieve that info. If you've done enough of steps 1-3, retrieval should be easier.

5. Relax

Remember that you did all the work weeks leading up to the big day. You need to take time to relax, breathe, and to collect yourself. When you are stressed, you will panic and when you panic ,you will forget what you just learned. So relax, breathe, and smile. You got this!

Well, there you go! Just a few tips on how to make sure you ace your midterms. We wish you luck and please wish us the same! You got this, work very hard and we know that you will get that A+ you have worked so hard for!

Please comment down below or send us a message if you too also have any great tips and advice you can give us and others about how to prepare for your upcoming midterms!

Good luck!
