6 Fall Activities To Do in Alberta

Updated: Dec 30, 2020

Days are getting shorter and nights are not only getting longer, but colder too! Summer definitely was not long enough but all we can do not is enjoy the present and make the most out of this season. This is why we're here to recommend some fall activities in Calgary (and Alberta) that you can enjoy with your loved ones.

This is one of our favourite all-in-one outdoor activities during the fall. The Calgary Farmyard gives you the full experience - you get to take pictures at the corn maze, pick out pumpkins at the patch, see some tiny piglets go on a race, and enjoy some of their outdoor activities while devouring a cup of hot chocolate. Perfect fall vibes, if you ask me. If you're lucky enough, you might even get to play with the goats while they unknowingly munch on your hair (we had to learn the hard way). Nonetheless, this is the perfect activity to enjoy with your partner, friends, and family while practicing social distancing.

2. Pumpkin Carving

After enjoying a day at the pumpkin patch, you can do some indoor activities with your loved ones such as carving some pumpkins. Make a competition out of it if you're feeling extra competitive! We love pairing this activity with some horror movies while baking some apple crumble (peep next week's post for the recipe) and even more hot chocolate. Turn this into a sleepover if you want the extended experience and build some forts in your living room. Besides, no one is ever too old for forts!

Moving on to the spookier side of activities, the Train of Terror is an adult-exclusive activity that runs throughout the fall season. For $76.66 CAD, you can embark on a journey through a crime scene, where a judge decides whether you're guilty of the crime or not. They recommend you gathering some liquid courage throughout this journey, so make sure you come with a designated driver. This activity has multiple phases and different other activities you can do with the package, so the experience is definitely worth the money!

Just when we thought we'd see the last of ScreamFest when they closed down in 2018, the franchise is opening its doors to the public again this year, and we've never been more excited! This activity runs on 2 different weekends, from October 22-25th, and October 29-31st, for a total of 7 days, and it will be held on the Stampede grounds. On top of the several haunted houses, they give you the opportunity to support local businesses with their Nightmare Market. You also get to play the same Stampede carnival games you've missed this summer. There are even some added activities such as axe throwing! General admission costs $25, but you can opt for the Killer Cash combo for $35, which gives you $16 worth of Killer Cash (ScreamFest currency). To prevent lines, you can purchase the Speedpass for $45 and make the most out of your time there.

Enjoy some outdoor shopping on October 25, while supporting local businesses. We highly encourage shopping locally, especially after local businesses have been affected by the pandemic. The market is open from 10am-3pm, so you have time to shop around and look through their pumpkin patch as well. This activity is family-friendly, so feel free to bring your little ones with you! We've been a fan of outdoor activities to maintain physical distancing, and looks like the colder weather is not stopping that yet. Go out there while you still can, folks!

6. Fall Hiking

Hiking trips are a trend we've been seeing all summer from Albertans. Looks like despite the first snowfall, we still get to bask in the beauty of our backyard by going on beautiful larch hikes in the Rockies. The Larch Valley & Sentinel Pass is a popular one that's not too hard or long. The hike starts at the magical Morraine Lake, so you get to hit two birds with one stone. Going on fall hikes is something we highly recommend; your eyes will be blessed throughout the whole trip and as you take all its beauty in, you will certainly be grateful that we live so close to wonders that people around the world would spend money to fly to!

We'd love to see all your fall pictures! Tag us on your posts for a chance to be featured on our page and don't forget to share your experience with us by sending us a message or commenting on our posts.

We hope you have a lovely pumpkin spice season,
