Cheap Summer Date Ideas During Covid 19

Summer is ending in 5 weeks. Isn't that crazy? This season flew by and we didn't even realize it. This summer is unlike our previous summers but it shouldn't stop us from going out and enjoying the sun while we still can. Now that the province is slowly opening up we need to still be practicing social distancing, to always wear a face mask, sanitize everything you touch, and to wash and sanitize your hands.

Down below is a list of 7 fun and cheap date ideas to do in Alberta, Canada during Covid-19. Please comment down below your own cheap and fun date ideas we would love to know.

1. Explore Zoos and Gardens

Do you love animals? Don't worry, places like the Butterfield Acres Petting Farm and the Calgary Zoo have social distancing options for you to view and interact with their animals. You can safely enjoy the company of your date and some cute animals. Other alternatives are the Chinook Honey Company and Chinook Arch Meadery in Okotoks, these places give you the opportunity to learn about bees! They are located only 45 minutes from Calgary's city centre.

2. Enjoy Nature Parks; visit the Rockies

Being in Alberta, we are blessed to have access to both national and provincial parks, lakes and different mountain sceneries to visit. A few great options to see are: Bow Falls, Sunshine Meadows, Tunnel Mountain, Lake Louise and Lake Minnewanka. There are hundreds of options for different sights you'd prefer to see that we haven't listed, so don't be afraid to take a little joyride and discover new adventures.

3. Go fishing

Alberta Conservation Association and Alberta Environment Parks have stocked water bodies across the province to create diverse fishing opportunities. The website linked above shows lakes and rivers near you.

4. Float on the Bow River

Rafting down the Bow River is probably one our favourite summer activities, whether it's with a group, or renting a kayak; just go with your beau. Rafting is a nice way to spend a summer day basking under the sun and enjoying the cool breeze. Check out The Paddle Station for their summer deals!

5. Visit museums and art galleries

Explore your local museums and learn about the history of your city in a fun and romantic way. Whether you're an art, science, or history enthusiast, there will always be something that caters to your interests. Heritage Park, the Glenbow Museum, and Telus Spark are a few of the many options in Calgary. If you're into art galleries, head on down to Inglewood in Calgary and make sure to check out Esker Museum (entrance is free!).

6. Go for a hike

Immersing yourselves to the great outdoor experience can be both a challenging and a bonding activity. The Grassi Lakes Trail located in Kananaskis is a quick and easy trail for beginners that will give you rewarding views in the end. But don't forget to pack snacks, water, sunscreen, and bug spray (bear spray if you want to be extra cautious)!

7. Go for a picnic

Another fun and cheap date idea is of course a classic- picnic in the park. Bring a picnic blanket, a basket filled with your favourite food and some ice cold drinks and you are good to go. Alternatively you can also just order food from your favourite local restaurants and have eat that in the park just please make sure to throw all your trash and recycling away. A few of our favourite local parks are: Bowness park, Canmore park, Edworthy park, and Shouldice park.

Don't forget to wear your masks while you're out and avoid crowded areas!
